Born in 1943, Peter Marsh immigrated to Canada in 1957. He can remember doing a watercolour painting in his art class at his grammar school in England, which means he has been painting for about 50 years!

In his work, both abstract and representational, Peter strives for unique meaning and expression. His landscapes remind us of the beauty of our fast changing natural environment, and his abstract pieces are more forceful about problems in our environment.

Peter is the former, and first, Art Director, of Scarborough's well known Visual Arts School at Wexford Collegiate Art Centre, where he taught from 1965 to 1998. Peter is a member of the famous Arts and Letters Club of Toronto, and is also a member of our national watercolour society the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour. He is "Member Emeritus" of The Scarborough Arts Council, in Toronto, and has been recognized publicly with many other awards including the Mensa Canada President's Award, and two nominations for the A.B.Patterson award for Excellence in Teaching. Peter served for 12 years as a Municipal Councillor in Seguin Township from 1988 " 2000. Peter has served on many boards and committees and was President of Seguin Arts Council for ten years, 1989 "1999. Peter Marsh is also an accomplished "raku" potter and a member of the Scarborough Potters Guild. A member of many arts organizations and a veteran of endless shows and exhibitions, Peter's work is held in many public and private collections, in Canada and abroad.

Peter Marsh's watercolours fit the Canadian tradition of landscape painting. Although many of his paintings have been painted on site he also does a large number of studio pieces. The work is typically strong in composition and subtle in colouring with close reference to actual sites. Although most of his work has been painted in the Parry Sound area, Peter has painted in most provinces from Newfoundland to British Columbia, and he hopes to get to our territories at some point in the future. From his travels he has also done paintings from the USA, France, and Italy. Almost all his work, however, refers to the Canadian landscape.

Peter Marsh's abstract work also centers on our natural environment, with a minimalist expression of both brushstroke and image combined with a potent message about pollution. These pretty "Have a Nice Day" paintings are somewhat more poignant than their prettiness implies, but are at the same time are a pure expression of the watercolour medium.

Peter also paints in Acrylics on canvas from time to time and these pieces are usually larger than those painted in watercolour. Now retired, Peter intends to continue to produce a substantial body of work, and spends most of his time working on his artwork.
